From Product Description:

Another season of Elm Creek Quilt Camp has come to a close, and Bonnie Markham faces a bleak and lonely winter ahead, with her quilt shop out of business and her divorce looming. A welcome escape comes when Claire, a beloved college friend, unexpectedly invites her to Maui to help launch an exciting new business: a quilter’s retreat set at a bed and breakfast amid the vibrant colors and balmy breezes of the Hawaiian Islands. Soon Bonnie finds herself looking out on sparkling waters and banyan trees, planning quilting courses, and learning the history and intricacies of Hawaiian quilting, all the while helping Claire run the inn.

As Bonnie’s adventure unfolds, it quickly becomes clear that Claire’s new business isn’t the only excitement in store for her. Her cheating, soon-to-be ex-husband decides he wants her stake in Elm Creek Quilts, which threatens not only her financial well-being but her dearest friendships as well. Luckily she has the artistic challenge of creating her own unique Hawaiian quilt pattern to distract her—and new friends like Hinano Paoa, owner of the Nä Mele Hawai‘i Music Shop, who introduces Bonnie to the fascinating traditions of Hawaiian culture and reminds her that love can be found when and where you least expect it.

The Aloha Quilt

08/26/2010

I've so enjoyed the other books in the series although at times found them repetitive which often happens with a series as the author has to retell certain parts of the previous books so a certain book can stand on it's own. This book was different and I enjoyed imagining being in Hawaii and the descriptions of winter holidays -living in Michigan. However I found the story pretty predictable and not being a quilter, wishing the long quilting descriptions would go faster..I found the ending of a difficult divorce and Bonnie's many troubles a little too much of a fairy tale ending. We'd all love to have our friends be there always and come through in the end but it was such a perfect end to such trouble, all neatly wrapped up, it seemed a little too utopia, esp for a series that would go on...I had a little hard time finding her love interest believable, he had a past that greatly haunted him and he and Bonnie argued some but then everything was great, not a lot more development of the relationship after they fell in love. Not a page turner as the other books have been, I kind of knew how this would all turn out but hoped for a bit more twists and turns..

only ok

i wish it was in the same class as the previous books. I wish there has been more Sylvia and more Elm creek. This book was well not great. Just Ok.

Review of Ahola Quilts

08/12/2010

I have read all books in this series and I don't think this one is as good as the others. I find it boring and it doesn't keep my interest. I hope next book will return to Quilt Camp and all the characters we have learned to love.

New Plot Twists plus History and Quilting History!

08/10/2010

I have read all the Elm Creek Quilt books and enjoyed them immensely. This one takes on a different plot twist with Bonnie and some new characters in Hawaii. Having traveled to Maui years ago, I really felt like I revisited the beautiful island. Her descriptions of Lahina and other places were accurate (by my memory) and I could visualize the walk with Bonnie to see the banyan tree and other landmarks. I appreciated the exposure to some Hawaiian history and was moved by the importance of quilting in that culture.

A great read for me because I learned something, I felt some emotions for the characters, and I didn't want it to end. I agree with another reviewer that I don't particularly "like" Bonnie, but Chiaverini has a well-developed character, flaws and all. The cover is beautiful and helpful in understanding the Hawaiian style.

I'm eager to see what happens next, but I'll have to wait for it to come out. Thanks for all the books so far!

A Little History Lesson

08/08/2010

I am a real fan of the Elm Creek Quilt novels. I love the characters and stories that come from them. This book added a new quilting dimension with some history of Hawaii and Hawaiin quilting techniques. As usual, the book leaves the reader to wonder what will happen next. Great relaxing read.
